This match solidified Steve Austin as a main player on the 1997 WWF Roster, while the match also shifted the fan's perception of Bret Hart, turning him into heel and allowing him to continue to achieve some of his greatest work while employed by Vince McMahon and the WWF. The Bret Hart vs Steve Austin Submission match at WrestleMania 13 was an important and pivotal moment in professional wrestling. In this video, I go back a full year before the match to dig into the history of the match. This includes Bret Harts loss to Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XII, Steve Austin leaving behind his Ringmaster gimmick to become Stone Cold, Bret Hart's return on Monday Night Raw in 1996 and his match against Austin at Survivor Series 1996, the events leading up to the 1997 Royal Rumble, The Final Four match, and we end with WrestleMania 13 and the submission match. This video will hopefully give you a full education on Bret Hart's slow character change into a sour and bitter performer while also letting you get a glimpse into the rise of Stone Cold Steve Austin.
