The star of the match was once again Sachin Tendulkar, who smashed a spectacular 95 runs from just 78 balls, including six fours and five sixes. Tendulkar was in complete control as he dismantled the Pakistani attack and guided India towards a comfortable victory. Sachin also shared a sensational 159-run opening partnership with Sourav Ganguly, coming from just 25 overs. The partnership completely changed the momentum of the final and put India firmly in control. The match was also historic for Tendulkar. During his innings, he became the youngest player at the time to reach 6,000 runs in ODI cricket, achieving the landmark at just 24 years and 265 days. Earlier in the match, Tendulkar had also contributed with the ball by taking three wickets, while Robin Singh played an important role in restricting Pakistan's batting. Pakistan's top order repeatedly made starts, but none of their batsmen managed to reach 40. India then made the chase look remarkably easy, with Tendulkar and Ganguly putting Pakistan under enormous pressure from the beginning. This was another unforgettable chapter in the legendary India vs Pakistan rivalry, featuring one of Sachin Tendulkar's most entertaining ODI innings of the late 1990s.
