While acknowledging that MOOCs have made significant progress in education over six years, the speaker emphasizes that they are unlikely to replace traditional higher education institutions. A key challenge identified is the sustainability of MOOCs, stressing the need for them to become financially self-sustaining, possibly with government support. Another area of focus is defining and measuring learner success beyond course completion. This includes understanding better what participants are gaining from online courses. Título: MOOC Challenges in the coming years. Challenges Descripción automática: In this video, the narrator discusses the challenges facing open online courses (MOOCs), focusing on financial sustainability issues. The traditional business model, offering free content and charging for certificates, has not been as successful as anticipated. Low enrollment-to-certificate purchase ratios, averaging around 1%, have put the sustainability of these initiatives at risk. The response by platforms such as the mentioned ones has been to experiment with methods to monetize access, such as paywalls after trial periods or limited free content. Additionally, the role of educational institutions in funding course creation and platform maintenance is highlighted, with significant investments from renowned universities. The video outlines various strategies to ensure the financial viability of MOOCs. One approach has been corporate partnerships where companies use MOOC content for staff training, yield

Título: MOOC Challenges in the coming years. About MOOCS Descripción automática: In this video, the speaker discusses the evolution of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) since they gained popularity in 2011, particularly after a machine learning MOOC drew significant enrollment. Despite predictions by some that MOOCs would revolutionize higher education completely, a shift in perspective occurred. The founders of one of the early MOOC platforms have since altered their strategy and are not creating new MOOCs, leading some to believe that MOOCs have failed or become obsolete. However, the video argues that MOOCs have achieved substantial success. They've been incorporated into blended learning environments, with impressive participation statistics from institutions like a technological institute, where nearly all undergraduate students engage with MOOC content. At the institute, blended learning strategies have improved student performance. The video further explains that MOOCs are not
